We love teak like everyone else and it’s sad to see it go but for the ease of maintenance we are having a fibreglass cockpit. The cost of steel heavy duty hinged covers for the sitting area is oober expensive ($3,000+/-) so we’re not too sure if we should just build our own. Since we are putting in an extra berth for Cali in the aft cabin we will be eliminating the engine room door. These hatches will be our only access to the engine. One decision to sleep on. The teak leaked unbelievably into the aft cabin and engine room. Rebedded the aft cabin hatch and fibreglassed the cockpit again. We are pleased that a friend of ours came by to check the boat (engineer that works with composite) and she got a thumbs up. He said he would rather be on a 30 year old fibreglass boat then a new steel one. He said her hull is extremely thick and strong, very well built. It was like xanax to hear that.
