During nap/ quiet time Carl worked on the netting and I crawled around the floor getting into the bilges. I admit I have been lazy I spotted a HUGE cockroach a couple of weeks ago in the girls bathroom, I think he’s been feasting on the soap but it wasn’t until I saw a wee little baby one scooting across the galley floor that I knew I had to take action.
After seeing Windtravelers blog on how to really kill cockroaches I order us some of the toxic stuff. I knew buying a used boat that a single male living on board for an extended period of time would have to cockroaches. But actually we’ve lived onboard for almost 5 months now and this has been the first sighting of a roach. So down I went squeezing little dabs into corners of the bilge making sure Carl wouldn’t put his foot in it when getting down and dirty in there. I bought 5 tubes all together so we’ll see what one does. I tossed the packaging when I got it from amazon so I didn’t have any instructions. The label was in Spanish with a little English on it, most importantly “keep out of reach of children” and “if you do not understand the label, find someone to explain it to you in detail” Eh? Let me go grab my Spanish interpreter.
Above: no I’m not smoking it, I’m blowing it off like a gun in a western movie. Attractive right?
Pri is now paranoid to leave food and crumbs on the floor. Carl told her that it makes the cockroaches big and strong and they don’t stop growing they get bigger and bigger and bigger!
When will we ever stop traumatizing our kids? NEVER!
The water is glassy today, so we’re going to head down to “pete’s pub” I wish for a beer and I’m sure Carl and our friends will have one. If the weather is still calm we’ll do a straight run tonight to Nassau. I would prefer 15-20 knot winds for a smooth sail but our choices are dead calm or a cold front rolling in with head winds. We really don’t want to risk me getting seasick at this stage in my pregnancy (32 weeks). I haven’t seen a doc in a few weeks and the pressure is building, literally. I think it would ease all our minds to make sure everything is running smoothly and I won’t be going into labor anytime soon on some remote island. Even though we are very prepared. We had an emergency kit prepared for an emergency birth onboard and have a couple of good books with clear illustrations for Carl. But we hope we don’t have to use any of this. In Nassau we’ll check out The Doctors Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital and from there find a doctor. We’ll also be on the hunt for a cheap marina to stay at because we’ll be there for about 6 weeks. Our initial Nassau trip will only last a few days then we’ll jump over to the Exumas for a couple of weeks to save on dockage. We’ll be close enough that if anything happens we can be back in Nassau in no time. Those are the plans but plans are never set in stone.
