Every morning Capri asks…

“Daddy be home soon? Daddy fixing my boat? Daddy broke my boat!

Yes sweetheart, daddy broke your boat. The boat has now been declared the “princess boat” with a “princess bed”, the help (being the rest of the family) is permitted to board the boat when necessary. I really don’t know how we could be blessed with the prissiest kid on the planet. Karma I bet. It brakes Carpri heart to know that we can’t go out sailing on it, even though she hates to be tethered to the mast.
We’ve been taking the girls to a local heated pool for swimming lessons and they’re doing well. Not too sure what we’re doing but we’re doing!
We’ve had to take out a lot of the wood from the interior – 30 years of leaks means a lot of ROT!  Ewww. We’ve decided to take the cheaper route and leave some of the walls plain fiberglass which we’ll paint an antique white. I’ll have to look online for some great wall stickers murals for the girls’ cabin. Want the boat to be as homely as possible. Can’t wait for the fibreglass work to be over (not anytime soon) and order some higher stanchions and put up the netting. Then the girls and come hang out as we fix the boat as a family. But until then…….

Carl is still working hard on the boat.
Weekends and soon to be evening after work. Don’t think we’re moving forward thou, just digging our hole deeper and deeper. Kathy (Grandma) is a trooper, she takes the kids so Carl and I can get some work done on the boat. I don’t think there’s anything worse then have fine fiberglass particles sticking in all your sweaty places!! Itchy, itchy, eww, eww!

“sweet, let’s get down and dirty”
“break time yet?”

“I have sweat in places I never thought possible”

Carl took the motor and and brought it home to refurbish or whatever the proper terminology is. We’ve had some crazy family times happening so unfortunately he hasn’t found time to do that yet. I think we’ve pretty much decided to veto the generator and charge the batteries through the motor, wind and solar. Having no generator opens up a bunch more space and we’re able to give Cali her own berth in the aft cabin.

We’re so lucky to be able to have the boat at the work yard with us. I can see her from my office. We’re taken sooo much stuff off her that you can see where her waterline sits now. At low tide she does sit on the bottom but at least we know she won’t sink.

Taken on my phone so it’s super small. And don’t mind my use of “Aft”. All messed up, don’t know my aft from my ass!

The girls love their swing. We’re going to put this on the boat. Very funky chicken!

Here’s an update on the work being done on the boat….

The master and anchor locker.

Master head and shower area.

The cut out is for our fabulous bed. We wanted a bed big enough for the whole fam to fit in for a snuggle.

Looking aft from the master. Carl cut out a center water tank and cleaned out the nasty area so now we can house extra batteries.

We are trying to make room for an extra bed for Cali. We will remove a locker and Carl has moved the generator and other mechanically looking stuff out of the engine room. We’ll opt for a smaller generator to save on the space.

Engine room. Great space to use.

Taken from the aft cabin (girls room) looking forward.

Just made (MY) first large purchase for the boat. Carl has already made substantial “investments”.  Not too sure where her home will be on the boat and Carl has made me promise, only one sewing machine on the boat.

Not that I know how to sew or anything. I get these grand ideas in my mind that I can make everyone clothes and cushions and sheets and even sails  – that’s wishful thinking. Probably have more luck sewing two of my fingers together.

Have on order a LSZ-1

I also bought a smaller and cheaper sewing machine to make the girls quilts out of their old baby clothes. It broke my heart to give the clothes away so instead they keep them warm on those sticky hot Caribbean nights.

Everyone seems to love these machines and can’t find any secondhand ones, I guess you use them until they die.

Bought all the tid-bits to make in cabin hatch covers to keep out the heat and damaging UV light. I’ll keep everyone posted on my project, I’m sure we’ll all have a good ole laugh watching how these puppies turn out.

Let the gutting begin

We made it through the Hurricane but Carl got bored on the boat and decided to see where the leaking was coming from. Well he discovered a bunch of rotten wood.
We have now decided to dig out the rot and build a big ass master bed. What was a great idea has turned into a monster project.

It will be brilliant once it’s completed. No regrets here!

“oh shit, what have I done”

Please take note of the shoes….. It’s been about 4 years but he’s finally wearing his blundstones. Bloody ripper mate!
