All I can say is buddy boats rock. We have been sailing around with SV Necesse and SV Mary Christine for over a week now and man does it make a difference. We were used to it being just us, us in our own little bubble living in ground hogs day. Now we have people to hang with and not just any people YOUNG people. Cruisers are great and carefree but we all know that they are of a more vintage stock. It’s a breath of fresh air to meet up with some people our own age. Better still with kids. Jody and Peter from Mary Christine don’t have kids but they have dogs which are just like kids. Eat a lot, poop a lot and take up too much space in bed.
The boys have done a man trip to home depot to shed some of that built up testosterone and the ladies have shared some wine. There have been beach days, kite surfing days and a yummy pizza nights. It’s lovely meeting up with new people and forming friendships but we all do live on sailboats and boats move. Soon we’ll have to say goodbye not knowing if we’ll ever see these great people again.
In truth we decided to head down to the Caribbean this season to come stalk some kid boats. Sailing with kids isn’t easy and a lot of parents are a lot smarter than us and decide to take their children sailing when they’re a wee bit older, around 7+ years old. We’ve only got time, lucky for us kids only get older and not younger. We’ve found that it’s easier to get in some adult conversation when our kids have other kids to play with.
We’re going to tag along with Necesse and Mary Christine for as long as they’ll have us. I’m sure there’ll be a morning when I pop my head out the hatch and they’ve quietly picked up anchor in the middle of the night. Until then we’re like stink on poop.
We’re looking forward to meeting up with SV Asante in about a week and some friends with have on Tortola. Heading up north through the Bahamas I’m sure we’ll make some more friends. If you see us around make sure you come knock on our hull.
