watermaker magic

The watermaker has been installed. It’s been on Carl’s list for a while now and with kids it’s pretty much impossible to complete a big project like that all in one day. He has a few days under his belt working on this puppy and now it’s OFF THE LIST! If it wasn’t for me unknowingly filling up the water tanks yesterday we would have ran it for a few hours today to get it up and running. I guess it’s not good to back wash or flush it with crappy chlorinated water. Looks like I’ll be having a super long shower tonight and running our tanks dry. Nice. She’s a 60 gallon per hour watermaker so we think she’ll pump out about 50 gal/hr. We’ll run the generator and make a little everyday. I must say that RO (reverse osmosis) water tastes a lot better than what I filled out takes with yesterday. Here in the islands you will pay 25c per gallon if filling up with RO water a marina. Cha-ching.

We filled our propane tanks up today and got a few more odds and ends and plan on leaving out of here tomorrow morning. The hustle and bustle of a big city (Marsh Harbour) is just not our scene. We’ll probably head to Man-o-War or Manjack for some relaxing beach time. I promised Pri that we would build a sand castle with a pond.

Got to love Pri’s push off face, maybe she’ll be a professional bobsledder when she’s older

The girls have been enjoying their swing, they can actually get some good height on it by themselves.

Carl is finally out of the engine room

July 9, 2013 by Carly Filed Under: Refit, watermaker

After days and DAYS of work Carl got the little generator for the watermaker up and running. Had a lot of inverter problems but I had faith and he got ‘r done! It’s a little louder that what we wanted but she sucks way less fuel that the boat engine.
Heads have been installed but not functioning yet, bathrooms have also have their final coat of paint on them. Chose an off white so it wouldn’t be as cold with snow white. Super glossy so easy to clean. Everything is going to look shit hot. He were bummed about having to remove and paint majority of the beautiful wood work but we didn’t want to live in all that rot. I don’t think it’s going to look all that bad, the trim work really pops with the white.
Painters are still working on the dodger and deck. The masts will hopefully come off today if Carl can get all the wiring disconnected in time.
We are spraying in a insulated barrier in the girls’ room for heat, it’s looking really good and you can’t even tell that there’s a think layer of foam.

Forgot to bring my camera to the boat today, excuse the phone pictures.

dorade heaven

June 21, 2013 by Carly Filed Under: deck hardware, Kids, Refit, Sewing, watermaker

We really didn’t want dorades on the boat because they just take up deck space but we see now how hot the boat can get without them. I guess new boats have better ventilation or something because you never see dorades on them. Any-ho our dorades are shit hot!

Installed the new boom vang from forespar.

Took off the old mast boot. Who doesn’t like a new pair of boots???

Getting the interior all prepped for painting next week – extremely excited! And finally the batteries have found their home. They got moved around a bit but under the girls’ beds is where they’ll stay.DSC_0265DSC_0266

Carl has been busy wiring up the engine room. Need to have a lot of gadgets working soon. We’ll have to move the boat to either Biloxi or New Orleans to get the boat hauled out to paint the hull.

The girls enjoy coming to the boat every few days. Cali is making it up and down the stairs/ladder better, even with a cast. Now that there’s less fiberglass work being done they can actually sit without getting an itchy bum. I bought a couple of foam mattress’ on overstock.com and have cut them down to fit into the two aft berths. With my electric knife it was like cutting butter. Hancock Fabric had a half off sale so I bought some 100% cotton fabric to cover them. I’ve almost completed the port birth and I must say it doesn’t look too bad, unlike my windlass cover which is embarrassing. I’ll just tell everyone that Carl made that one. I’ll post some pictures of the mattress’s when my girls stop using it as a rock wall.
