We left Plymouth, Massachusetts 2 days ago heading for the Arctic. We are so excited for our next adventure, the Northwest Passage. It was sad to leave family and a little nerve racking, did we forget anything? Does everything work correctly? But we know that for the next few weeks we’ll be in places that have produce and mail service that we can get parts in. No sweat. As I write this we are still underway and will be in Halifax, Nova Scotia in the next few hours. It was been a good sail and the new crew members: Peter and Michelle are working out great. All our personalities seem to be a good mix and we haven’t wanted to kill each other yet…… yet.
You may have noticed that we’re a little off of the time schedule I posted a while back but we still hope to be in Greenland come the 1st of July. The next stop after Halifax is the Bras d’Or Lake, here we’ll do laundry and pick up some more fresh produce. We’ll be mostly doing 2-3 day passages up Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador.
There is definitely a buzz on the boat at the thought we’ll be in Greenland in a month. I may be the only one on board excited for Labrador too. The people, the places, the wildlife. I just can’t wait.
Highlights of Plymouth to Halifax:
- Crew projectile puked on Cali
- Stugeron rocks (seasickness pills)
- Extra crew don’t mind eating mac n cheese, grilled cheese or hot dogs – that’s my kind of people!
- Finally found farm fresh eggs for the trip – 4 dozen stored in the bilges
- Great sailing in the first 24 hours, we hit 12 knots at one time
- Hit some classic thick fog on the last 24 hours
We got a couple of great fly bys by the Canadian Coast Guard, we must have looked pretty hot under sail, wing on wing.

I’m a good friend of Doug Pohl’s. We went to high school together and are dating. I really have hopes to do the NWP with him. I’ve been following your blog and thoroughly enjoy your updates, your adventures and your lovely children. I love the photo of your boy with magic market on him. What a great adventure for you and your lovely family. All the best… Look forward to your next post.
