We had our first boat birthday yesterday and it was a HOOT! Pri turned the big 4, and proud of it. I had filled the salon with balloons and draped streamers from one side to the other. It only took $5 of decorations, living on a boat rocks! She got lots of presents and spent the day guarding them from Wags. I took it upon myself to make a Cinderella birthday cake thanks to youtube. It was all good until I got to the frosting. Carl was removing all the hatches and replacing them with ones that don’t leak. I must say it was a great idea if only it wasn’t 40 degrees outside. So my frosting got punished. My hands were going numb from beating the cream into butter. Who knew it did something other than turn to whipped cream? Well my “butter” was crossed between butter and whipped cream and by the time I added the other ingredients it was a little on the watery side.
Then came the o-oh of I didn’t build the skirt tall enough so I got Carl to chop off her legs. Wasn’t’ a nice clean cut though, poor ole barbie looks like she’d been dessert to a great white. Oh well. The girls LOVED it. Pri was a little upset with the missing legs but we told her that she was a pirate and takes her everywhere with her. Fun day all around but bloody tired by the end of it.
Above: poor pirate shark attack Barbie. She’ll live to fight another day.
We shared the cake with some workers we had onboard but there was still a big chunk left, it quickly got tossed after the girls went to bed. That much frosting is no good for kids or for mumma who has to deal with crazed blue kids. Pri came in crying this morning saying that daddy ate her cake. Men they don’t know how to spin a good story. Mumma fixed it by telling her the truth. It was covered in ants! The ants sailed there own boat to ours and came aboard and were stealing the cake. I had to put it in the garbage or the ants would bite your bum when you woke up. “oh, thank you mumma for putting my cake in the garbage”. Mumma saves the day.
Today all the hatches came off AGAIN for painting and bedding down. Great timing too, because today was also 40 bloody degrees. Poor Pri was rolled in a blanket on the floor and Wags was wandering around with her beanie over her eyes. I got some reprieve from the girls and hit the grocery store for more provisioning. The bagger must have thought me a farting machine from all the beans I bought. Love my pinto, kidney and black beans but Carl hates them. Got them anyway – chef knows best!
Spent the arvo squeezed under our table adding everything to my excel sheet and neatly packing everything away. Cramming a 26 week pregnant woman under a table is not a pretty sight.
I’ll be posting some pics of our new hatches tomorrow. Keep an eye out.
