Here’s a quick video of our journey from Massachusetts USA to Paamuit, Greenland. 1,750 nautical miles and 24 days later we have made it to Greenland. When looking at the chart we were wondering if we would ever make it but we took it day by day. We had some good times and some bad but overall it’s been a good trip. We are only about a quarter of the way to Alaska – that’s if we make it through the passage.
The good:
- no major injuries – Peter grinded off his finger in Plymouth before we left but is all healed now
- the kids still love living on the boat
- the extra crew are fitting in great
- I haven’t given anyone food poisoning… yet
- we’ve had only a few days of thick fog
- all systems continually to work well
The bad:
- we are dangerously low on cookies and crackers
- seal should not be considered a meal
- 24 hours of sunlight is not helpful in getting kids to bed
- we’ve had to motor a lot due to light winds
- it get’s BLOODY COLD
- limited internet
And the UGLY:
- Michelle has lost her breakfast, lunch and dinner multiple times
- Crew has puked all over Capri
- Capri puked all over me
- chasing poop diapers across the saloon in rough weather
- having the contents of the fridge fall on me while seasick, while trying to make dinner
We’re all still happy to keep heading north – except Peter, he’s flying home tomorrow and we’re picking up new crew north of here. I’m sure there will be a day (or more) that we will want to give up but we’ll be so far north it won’t be possible. You can never have a good adventure without adversity. If we we’re after Disney World… we would go to Disney World.

I am following you and have been for awhile. I think what
you are doing is so great not only for you but for your children.
This was a dream of ours but we have gotten to old to do this.
We will sail to the Bahamas this fall, on our 47.3 Beneteau. We are equiped to to go around the world, our boat has everything on her. I will keep following you and like you on facebook. Fair winds.

Thanks Mary Lou, some days I pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming. Kids are all having a blast! Maybe we’ll see you around 🙂
