We have big ones, little ones, fast ones, s l o w ones – but glad we don’t have flying ones. I put out some poison not too long ago but I mustn’t have caught them in time before they decided to lay eggs. There are little bubba roaches popping out of every crevice of the boat. Mind you I only write this post after my family has booked their tickets to come visit, or they may just not come. Now they’re trapped!!! Carl put some more poison out the other day so hopefully we can get them under control. We have to use little bits of poison because of the girls. I don’t really want to use spays or bombs because of the girls and me being pregnant and the soon to be new addition. We also found that the girls have been splashing a lot in their collapsible bath tub causing the plywood floor under the flooring in the bathroom to be soaked. They have also been getting some flying bugs that look like fruit flies around their head. I don’t know whether its because of the wet plywood and probably some trapped water in the bilge because of the splashing or because they don’t flush the toilet after every use. Carl and I constantly pump the head every time we go past but these kids seem to pee every 2 minutes. Now they refuse to pee in their head and use ours. So what to do about all these bugs???? You may think, just starve out the roaches then they would move on, but you forget we have a 4 and soon to be 3 year old board who think they are Hansel and Gretel and leave a trail of bread crumbs in their wake. I vacuum daily now that we’re at the marina but still I find little surprises everywhere. Our neighbors think we got the cockroaches from the dock and being in more tropical weather you can’t control them coming on board. But they have to go go go! I guess more poison and clean, clean, clean. Would love some suggestions for the flying bugs in the head. I put out a bowl of vinegar because that gets rid of fruit flies but it didn’t work. Should I tip a little something in the bilge below the head incase there is a little bit of stagnant water? Carl says that none of the bilges have any little weep holes. If we got a lot of water in the bilges it would build and overflow to the main bilge with the pump but because there are no little holes there may be about 1/2” of water sitting there from the splashing of the tub. I can’t even rip up the floor to check it out. There’s just no access. Another project, for another day.
On another note yesterday we hit the local party island where the booze cruises take their guests. You don’t venture more than 50’ in because of all the beer bottle and broken glass. But the girls love the little tide pools and they search for crabs and fish. It’s nice and quiet there if you catch it at the right time, perfect to sun my belly (and it is in need of some rays!). Still nothing on the baby front. I found a Pediatrician not too far from the boat and will walk there tomorrow morning before it gets too hot to fill out the paperwork and give my hefty deposit of $440. I wonder what I get for that? Don’t they just give the baby a quick check up after he or she is born? Maybe I’ll get a gift basket! HA! Some things are cheap here and something’s are just crazy expensive. The hospitals are cheaper than the states but the doctors still seem to charge the same rates. Crazy.
Soaking up some vitamin D!
